Sorry for the annoying question, but seeing as Styrofoam is so environmentally unfriendly, why is it used in BBQ comps in America and I presume here also?
I am not having a go or anything, just curious.

Turn in boxes are just like the food boxes you get from a kebab shop over here. They're made from expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam is just a brand) and are used much more widely than BBQ comps. EPS is 100% recyclable and is actually recycled more than glass and ally in th UK apparently. I don't know if this is the same in America.

However, the manufacture of polystyrene does produce a lot of hazardous waste.

But I guess the answer to your question is that EPS boxes are cheap and readily available, that's why they're used. The same reason caterers, and food vendors use them so widely. There are environmentally friendly options but you don't see them when you pop into your local Booker.

i intend bringing environmentally friendly options to Tongham for BBBQS consideration. Many markets and concessions in UK do not allow anything else. I too support sustainable packaging.

What have you got as an environmentally friendly option? I know there's lots of options such as cardboard and bamboo products. Like I said above though, you just don't tend to see them around.

hi Steve, we are using Good Life biodegradable 9" lunch boxes, unbleached napkins and some biocompostable cutlery purchased from Talon Direct London E12 6 EW. I'll find web address if you need it
