Hello from Kent

Postby Meteor » 30 Dec 2013, 21:55

Hi,
I've always been a keen BBQer.
I do about 50-60 BBQ's a year, sometimes I'm sure my neighbours think I'm nuts.
I started off with charcoal but got myself a gas Outback about 6 years ago and a Weber a few years back. I've been hooked ever since.
For Xmas, my wife bought me a 47cm Weber smokey mountain and I'm desperate to give it a go!

I've been reading amazingribs.com and it's got some great tips. I thought I'd get on here and start asking a few questions....

Thanks
Meteor

Welcome! 50-60 a year! Wowser!

You'll be hooked on the smoker once you start. Get yourself a decent thermometer set too, best investment in bbq I ever made (I use a maverick ET372, remote temp monitoring for the win)

Thanks.

I've got an igrill that seems to be ok although I'll probably change it to something that'll enable me to keep tabs on the grill temp as well as the meat. I've also got a thermapen that works great.

I spent £30 on my first digital thermometer, which was a wired single probe unit that was not weatherproof. Nuff said about what happened to that. I bought a similar unit and it went the same way. £60 down the drain, so I bit the bullet and spent that extra bit on the maverick.

Being able to monitor both grill temp and meat temp, remotely, indoors, far away from the smoker, and have an alarm wake you up should temps fall out of the range you set, is worth a lot more than the £40 I spent on it.

I'm now seriously considering investing in an automatic temperature control fan. Set it and forget it, to cook a brisket? Yes please!!!
