hello

Postby robin61 » 08 Mar 2014, 09:44

Well I am looking forward to getting back into some barbequeing again. I used to be quite keen but in recent years not so much so. I still have one of those Brinkman vertical smokers which has gone unused in recent years and a Cypriot barbeque with motorised skewers again which I have not used for years. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I have also killed a couple of cheapo barbeque so I will be looking around for a decent easy to use barbeque. Regards Robin.

Greetings from one Robin to another!

I like the idea of a motorised spit barbecue. I recently upgraded from using an ECB and kettles to building my first UDS. Best decision ever. So cheap, so easy to build, and more importantly - very easy to use. Produces top notch bbq. There is also a thread worth you checking out discussing the ins and outs of ProQ vs WSM viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4484&p=36434#p36434

Thanks. Yep I picked the Cypriot BBQ up off e bay a few years back. I cost a bit over £100 if I remember rightly. There is one large motorised spit for doing joints and chickens etc. I have never found that very successful as the spit keeps falling into the charcoal unless you stand over it to stop it happening. However there are numerous smaller motorised scewers that all turn together and those are great for things like chicken tika, smaller cubes of lamb and pork etc. I think I am leaning towards a Weber one touch premium 57cm seems like a good all rounder, easy to use and good quality. For the odd time I might want to do smoking I can use my old Brinkman or even use the Weber one touch although I appreciate it's not a dedicated smoker.

To be honest, if your old Brinkmann is the ECB - the Smoke n Grill - I think you'll find the OTP better for low n slow. It actually has airflow control as opposed to the "set a fire and pray" approach with the ECB!

57cm is pretty big too, I often cook on my 57cm kettle when I'm just doing a small cut for the family, and can fit a pork butt and a chicken on there.

Robin, yes I think it is the smoke and grill. I had some quite good results with chicken but not so great with other things. It has gathered dust in the shed for a few years now. Thanks for your thoughts about the Weber.
