Hello from a confused BBQer

Postby BradleyB » 19 Apr 2014, 19:10

Hi All,

My wife and I are buying our first home and I really want to get a good BBQ.

I've grown up on my dads charcoal BBQs, so am keen to go down this route and not gas. I saw this Weber model (http://www.johnlewis.com/weber-smokey-m ... ck/p721709), which appealed to the meat lover in me as I love the taste of smokey meat.

This may sound like a really dumb and obvious question, but would anyone know if this model would allow me to do regular bbqs (i.e. cooking sausage, steak, lamb in a normal time) as well as smoking meat over a longer period of time (10 hours +).

I dont want to buy the wrong thing and end up only with a smoker that tooks a long time to cook everything?

Thanks for the help. Really appreciate the help and any tips/advice,

Thanks,

Brad

Hi old chap and welcome,
The WSM is probably the best bullet smoker out there but is to wheels on a tomato when it comes to regulation grilling, in theory you can take the body off and grill around your ankles but would not recommend. If it is charcoal you seek then would suggest you need 2 if you are planning really long cookes.

I have an weber kettle and this is excellent as an hybrid, you can grill happily and you can do offset smoking by piling coals and wood to the sides and putting meaty goodness in the middle. There are of course gadgets that work with the kettle so look for "smokinator" in the search on these forums.

For me, and I hafve not got this past the finance dept yet would be an pellet grill, I have my eye on an Green mountain grill or gmg.

If you are not so budget councious check out the komado joe and the big green egg ceramic cookers as these again can do both.

Hope this helps, there is never an definitive answer in this game but hopefully some food for thought.....
Cheers
