Hi Fellow Smokers and BBQer's

I live in sunny old Stoke-on-Trent, Been BBQing (57CM Weber Kettle)for a while but recently just started to get into the indirect cooking on the Weber, and then entered a new lady in life, Sammy the Smoker of which has only recently been built, I have had two Dates upto yet, one not very successful (overdone Loin, but the Dog didn't seem to mind) but the Second was very successful with pulled pork that worked out great.

looking to do more smoking and picking peoples knowledge and experience from on here, from Smoking and also regarding upgrading my Smoker (Looking to make some Kind of hinge device for Lid hence the lack of handle on the Lid and some proper Feet or Stand so I can remove the House Bricks)

I used the VHT (Very High Temp) Brand Enamel Black and Yellow spray cans from Amazon, it took one can for the Lid, and 1 & 1/2 for the Drum...still waiting for some Pipework to arrive to put on the Air inlets........

the Firebasket was made from Woven mesh and Ash Pan and Grate from a 12" portable BBQ I picked up on the cheap from ASDA which is working well.

Looking to hopefully upgrade the Sammy at some point with a Hinged Lid (I'm hoping there some fellow Q's on here have done the same) and some proper Feet\stand eventually it will be on some slabs

Looks very shiny for VHT paint. I used HT from halfords in the end and it covers very well. Brushes it on though so doesn't look that great. found that a roller was better. Still, it works amd holds a good temp with my controller. Yeah I have bits out of cheap barbeques in mine. Using the lid from a 40cm kettle to deflect heat. Works a treat.

Hi Essex,

there does seem to be two types, the VHT which is more of a matt finish, and then the VHT Enamel which is the Gloss type that I used, it may look better as it was applied from a Spray can so the finish was very even, I did do the Lid first so I got use to how to apply the paint,

I did do some Google foo to find the best to use, as they had some reviews which weren't very good for the Halfords Temp paint both from other Smoker forums and Motorbike enthuasist's so just went with the general feel that the VHT was seem to be longest lasting....

using the Lid to Deflect heat ? is that cause you smoker gets to hot, if so I have the opposite issue at the moment.

the second smoke, I had trouble getting the temp up to 200, I think I might have filled the basket too much coal, so the Air Inlet's were not reaching the white coals, just hitting the unlit coals.

but I have logging and take pictures that I can use as references while Im learning what to and what not to do.
