Hi Stu,

What price could you buy a Monolith for? Also interested as to why if you went to the premium end of the market the Primo wasn't on your agenda, was it just the deal?

Paul,

I did get a very good deal on the BGE as an overall package which suited my plans a little better (included the slatted table).

The monolith Classic in the UK (list price) is £995. You can buy in Germany for 995 (990 for red) Euro delivered to the UK.

At the time I was buying the rate was 1.43 so that would have made it £695 delivered. None of the UK resellers I spoke to wanted to come close to that. Today it would be £735 Delivered.

That's what I find with a lot of stuff harking from the US. Most retailers this side of the pond get the product from the same supplier and at the same USD price. But you will note that the prices are the same except for the fact that the price in the EU is in Euros and ours are in GBP. When I spoke to the supplier of the le Caja China in Europe recently about being a UK retailer I couldn't proceed as the margins were too low. His answer? He just said charge the same amount as the EU retail price but in GBP to increase the margin, so go figure!

Best I found was £800 with a free cover for an open box. Collection only, no delivery.

Best 'new' price I found was £849 collection only.

I think open box could be a code word or discreet method of discounting beyond the importers instructions for authorised dealers.

Bit different to £695 at my door from Germany. The shipping itself would be quite expensive.

So either the UK resellers are being restricted by narrow margins or the UK importer is controlling the minimum selling price.

Stu, The prices you quoted include the cart? Any extras or just the kamado?

In the UK you can't now buy it with "just the cart".

The full package includes heat deflector stone, pizza stone and second tier cooking rack so it's important to be compare apples with apples when making a buying decision. You may find some of the UK sourced prices are old stock not including the full package so there might be a deal to be done for anyone that wants it.

Worth a thought as we come to the end of the season.

Hi Paul,

So far as I am aware the deals I was offered did not include the extra's as I was asked if I wanted to add the extra items.
