Hello from Guildford

Postby tomm783 » 29 May 2012, 21:00

Hi all,

I am expecting a delivery of a Kamado Joe in the coming days as the Kamado's are so versatile as a cooking device.

I am pretty new to the BBQ cooking scene so go easy on me!

I expect to be asking plenty of questions and look forward to your expertise in al areas of BBQ!

Cheers,

Tom :D

Welcome to another KJ owner!

You'll love it - remember to plan on doing a few lower (under 400F) cooks first - this will extend the life of your gasket. You can do lots of stuff this way which you wouldn't normally think of.

What accessories did you stump up for? If you didn't get one already, I would highly recommend getting the heat deflector & pizza stone. IMHO it really expands the amount you end up using it in preference to cooking inside.

Let us know how you get on & shout with any questions.

Cheers,

Simon

Wow, thanks for such a positive response! rest assured, questions will be aplenty!

Simon, I certainly did stump up for the Heat Deflector and the Pizza Stone - the thought of roasting a joint until it melts or baking bread in the KJ is massively appealing!

Ive told the misses that we will use it to cook everything so the electricity bills will be lower.... I think she went for it...

Gav, thanks for the welcoming words, I see we are both close-by to Toby as well.

Toby, I was talking to the other half about going along to the show and I am pretty sure we will be there, I will make sure I drop by and say hi!

Cheers all,

Tom

its catch 22 for us, it would me life easy if people book in advance, but it is fun and creates a stir when we get visitors to join in so always leave at least 1 round empty. We are next to the main entrance from stoke park, near the country pub! so should be easy to find

Well I had an interesting day today - I was expecting the Kamado to be delivered and it did - sort of...

So my girlfriend was at home and the spanner from TNT turns up and realises that the box is heavy (no shit).

He then realises that he has forgotten his trolley for lifting heavy boxes so decides it best to unpack the box and bring it in piece by piece...

He then realises that he can't lift the Kamado and re-packs the box, tells the misses that he will be gone for an hour to get the trolley, then he will deliver it.

He never comes back!

So, a shitty call to TNT who said they would now have to deliver on WEDNESDAY (paid for next day delivery), now has me waiting in tomorrow expecting a delivery before 2pm - fingers crossed, it will arrive otherwise, the fan will be hit with a large amount of faecal matter!

Rant over!

Bugger! Make sure you check each piece when (if?!) they deliver tomorrow - if he unpacked it, you can bet there wasn't much care in re-packing which would worry me with ceramics....
