Good afternoon from Sidcup- Weber One Touch Premium??

Hello all,

joint this site yesterday after discovering it whilst researching for a new charcoal bbq.
After 12 years of using my beloved giant stainless gas system, I've decided to end the affair and go back to charcoal.
Got my eyes on a Weber One Touch Premium (57cm), thoughts on this and whether there's anything else to consider in this price range?

I've been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time in South Africa and have already cooked up lots of recipes from various 'Braai' books. I'm looking forward to cooking on wood and lightly smoking for a more authentic taste.
I plan to post some of the 'more unusual' recipes on here once I'm up and running, along with seeking advice if and when needed.

As to the Weber you get what you pay for, with the Weber you are looking at 50-60 years of experience, plus it's got lots n lots of gadgets and accessories to boot
Oh yes and it's well built and foolproof (that means I can use it)

It was my first "proper" BBQ, and although I have now turned to the dark side, and bought a wood pellet grill, I would happily recommend a Weber One Touch to anyone. It is flexible, and will last for years.

The only problem I've ever had is that some (including mine) suffer from a front leg that doesn't stay latched in place, and so can suddenly come out of its housing when moving the thing. Note that this is only ever an issue when moving it, not when in use, and, if it does happen to you, it is easily solved with a single self-tapping screw to hold the leg in place. It isn't something that should stop you buying a Weber, as otherwise they are quite wonderful.

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you'll be very happy if you buy a one touch. They're fantastic units that offer a lot of flexibility and the build quality is second to none.

Good evening from East Yorkshire, i'm sure you'll find this forum very helpfull, I know I do. I can vouch for the quality of Weber kettles, both of mine are at least 5 years old and still look and work as good as new. They are like most things in life, you pay for what you get. My gas bbq has now been made redundant.

Purchased my one touch at the weekend....beautiful!!
Yesterday, i planned to brine a chicken in prep for 'beer can' method, but accidentally popped into the pub and stayed a wee bit longer than planned. Anyhow...after a clean, a liberal rub of lemon, a dowsing in a spicy, herbal rub and a can inserted in the cavity, my Oakham chicken was placed on my new Weber grill. Had a few problems with maintaining heat but put this down to poor quality lump wood, this particular brand was more like dust than lumps, but persevered and with a few applewood chips in a foil smoker, the end result was particularly good, along with some grilled corn on the cob and a glass of the cold stuff...all went down well. The kids tried it today and I got top marks
I need to source some restaurant grade lumpwood, or maybe some heat beads (which is better?)
After 12 yrs on my gas unit, whether it be rain, shine, xmas joints, english breakfasts, it was an amusing and enjoyable challenge with my new Weber.....safe to say, I'm converted to fire!
Question is....decent wood or heat beads (or any other suggestions)?

Never been able to get quality lumpwood charcoal so until recently have just used supermarket bqiquettes. However I have just changed to CoCo shell briquettes which seem to work fine, are sustainable and leave little in the way of ash.

I use excellent quality lumpwood charcoal from http://www.wickedgoodcharcoal.com My Local farm shop sells it down here in Northants so I can get it locally, I use the 'Weekend Warrior Blend' This stuff is awesome, Restaurant quality big fat lumps of charcoal, just like a bag of black logs/lumps of wood, no dust or little bits just nice big chunks or hardwood charcoal, biggest lumpwood I've ever found This is the best by far, It's imported from the States and only uses quality hard wood but its available in various stores if you spend some time on google to hunt it down, I wouldn't go back to briquettes now. Be Wary of the cheap bags of lumpwood, These tend to be Tropical woods with added chemicals/Fillers.
