My wife and I will be making our first visit to the UK in August. I do have a life other than BBQing, but it IS well up on my list of things that make getting up in the morning worthwhile. I'm of the Low 'n' Slow school, but Hot 'n' Fast is just fine (and, yes, I do fancy a ribeye). We will be travelling from London to the south and Inverness to the north and would appreciate any suggestions about local 'que experiences along the way. Thank you!

Although not "Large" by any US standard, our motorway infrastructure is not always as easy to navigate as it seems at first. Also whilst we have some stunning and award winning eateries of all types and price-ranges they are well spaced throughout the UK.
If you give us a rough idea of where you will be and when I'm sure some of us will be able to suggest somewhere nice.

Our tentative schedule is: 3/4 August in York, 5/8 August in Edinburgh, 9/10 August in the Inverness area, 11/12 August in the Oban area, 13/14 August in the Lake District, 15-21 August in and around Wales and Bath and 22/26 in London. In addition to BBQ, we/I are interested in motor sports, good food and beverage and history (certainly no lack of possibilities there). I was desperately hoping to find a ride in a Spitfire or a Sea Fury, but no luck other than shadowing a Spitfire in a helicopter.

World's End in Brighton - got great reviews and the food is cooked by a forum regular
Grillstock have opened a place in Bristol
Brewdog in Manchester have a menu put together by Dr Sweetsmoke
Hickorys in Chester (personally thought the food was nothing better than OK but other people have been there and raved, maybe I was unlucky)
Reds True BBQ in Leeds - there's a thread elsewhere on the forum about them, reviews have been mixed.

Just stay in York - it's the finest place on the planet.

Definitely visit the Minster...but you were going to do that anyway, weren't you.

Not sure if it's your cup of tea, but the National Railway Museum is in York, too.

On the history side there's Clifford's Tower and the Castle Museum. All within walking distance of the station.

A good place to eat in York is Jamie's Italian. I recommend the rabbit ragu.

You should be able to find all of these, including maps/directions, on t'internet, but just shout up if you're having any trouble.

The War museum in Duxford has a historic flight of aircraft plus there's website classic-wing.co.uk. I have often seen 6 or 7 Spitfires buzzing around the airfield, when driving up the motorway.
