Hi everyone

I have been bbqing for many years now, got into it as a child really, my Dad used to bbq most friday nights in the summer (back in the late 70's and early 80's when we used to get summers) and we'd sit around it afterwards toasting marshmallows etc.

My Dad decided to go for a gas grills after a trip to relatives in Canada and witnessing the convenience and speed. We never really looked back after that.

So when I got my own house in '94 one of the first things I bought was a basic 2 burner gas bbq and I have had many different ones since. Covered or not they never seem to last longer than a few years in the UK climate.

Currently I have large stainless hooded bbq with 4 burners, infra-red back burner and side burner. I guess I average using it 3 times a week for dinner, more if you count breakfast or lunches if on a break from work. I have a large umbrella :)

It has lasted 3 and a half years but two of the burners have burnt through now so I will be looking towards replacing it with a weber spirit e310 towards the year end. The burners do not seem replaceable (which is a shame as it was expensive and the rest of it is fine) as they are riveted in and most of the areas I would need to access are also riveted.

I'm a bit of a foodie anyway, but always liked man v food and his newer show fandemonium, both showing off the USA's love for grill cooked food and smoking.

Then I found the bbq pitmasters show and that was me sold. I had to buy a smoker.

A couple of weeks ago I ordered a brinkmann smoke n grill, and popped into bookers for some of their lumpwood.

I've done the seasoning burn but on Saturday when I was due to do two large racks of ribs and some chicken portions it rained almost all day (so they went in the oven low and slow).

Hopefully I'll get to use it soon.

Now I shall head over to the newbie area and ask a couple of newbie questions.

And the circle in complete. Father cooks using solid fuel, moves to gas. Grow up and start with gas, then move to solid fuel. The circle of life.

Looking forward to seeing what you plate up, and some pics of that new smoker.

Feels weird welcoming you since I just got here but...... welcome! :)

hi Lee
welcome to the forum where talk is cheap, which is good because everything else is expensive:- equipment, meat, fuel, spices, beer, wine and on and on.
enjoy

Welcome

It sounds like you are well on the way to producing some great food, unlike myself who is reading too much into everything and researching stuff to death! Where abouts in the NW are you?
