Hi from Berks

Postby Rednaxela13 » 01 May 2014, 21:37

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and the world of real BBQ (although grilling over charcoal for many years!). I'm due to take delivery of a new/smoker at the weekend, so I joined up to get a bit of advice etc from those that have been at this a bit longer than me!

All the best

Hi Alex, I'm new as well but smoking isn't as hard as it seems there are loads of tips on what wood to use and other mental but tasty tricks. What smoker have you ordered?

Welcome friend,
Splendid to have you here but you need to sharpen up old friend "taking delivery of an smoker"....that is like going to an motorsports entghusiast site and saying "I am taking delivery of an car"

Come on what is it, what are your plans etc etc :)
Cheers

Cheers guys!

I'm in Maidenhead, and the "pit" is a Brinkmann Trailmaster... I've seen mixed reviews but couldn't resist! Should arrive tomorrow afternoon so I'll have a go at putting it together (already got the fireproof silicone!) and seasoning it on Sunday ready for a first cook on the bank holiday (weather permitting!). I'll let you know how I get on!

Thanks

Alex

The new smoker arrived this afternoon... I was originally planning to build her tomorrow, but with the sun out in the sky I just thought I'd get stuck in. Unfortunately the instructions were missing, but I'd watched a video on YouTube last week that showed how to put it together.

Image

There were plenty of components but all went together very well (with lots of fireproof sealant to keep everything nice and airtight!) ...the only part that needed a bit of adjustment was the bottom bracket for the firebox which needed two holes drilling as the pre-drilled ones were in the wrong places.

Image

I'm pleased with the finished article... the build quality seems good and the steel seems pretty robust (although thicker on the doors than the main body)

Image

I also added some heatproof gasket tape around the flanges of the doors, just to make a nice tight seal...

Tomorrow I'll fire her up for seasoning!
