Newbie in Bradford

Postby BradfordBantam » 08 May 2014, 16:06

Hello :)

Having spent weeks reading on this site about bbq's, techniques, food, rubs, mops, smoke boxes, chips (wood not potato!) ... I thought it rude not to introduce myself!

I have just taken the plunge and bought a 5-burner Banquet gas bbq. Went for gas due to the size of the gatherings we tend to hold ... just thought gas would accommodate us better!

I have invested in a smoke box and some wood chips so I can get that "authentic smoked bbq taste", alongside a thermometer, some Butt Rub (made the kids laugh!) and The Pitt Cue recipe book... I think you can all guess what I'll be doing this weekend.

As the name suggests, I live in Bradford with 1 x OH, 4 x kids, 1 x cat.

Will keep reading and learning then if you ever pop by I should be able to cook us some proper grub!

Cheers

Richard

How did the BBQ go?

Not sure about the gas but I'm sure we can convert you to charcoal at some point :)

Time and weather were against me I'm afraid so there was no Barbie.

Will try again this Saturday as its my daughters birthday and we'll have a dozen or more teenage girls rampaging through the house!

I will get a charcoal one... soon... I promise... for just when I don't need to feed the proverbial 5000!

That's a coincidence, my daughter is 3 on Saturday.

I'm doing a shoulder of pork and beef brisket overnight on the WSM, that will be followed by chicken thighs and drums in the morning that will be finished off on the kettle BBQ. Burgers and frankfurters will all be done on the hot grill. You can do lots on charcoal :-)

It does help if you've got a big ass bain marie to keep stuff warm in though, otherwise you end up cooking all the way through the party and not talking to anyone.
