Grillstock changed my life....

Postby opronnie » 14 Jun 2014, 10:10

So, I and a friend went to the Bristol Grillstock festival last week and it opened my eyes to how proper bbq should be done. Met some wonderful bbq fanatics and it's really rubbed off on me so much so I've decided I want to purchase a weber smoker bbq... Anybody in here suggest a good place to start to look for one? EBay turned up nothing good so wondered if anyone here knows where to look?

Anyway... Hope to hear from people soon.

Cheers.

Just google weber smokey mountain if you want a dedicated smoker or weber one touch if you want the flexibility, it will grill and smoke but the later isn't so easy. To my amazement even Argos stocks them now, including the new 37cm version!!

Dear Chum,
Consider carefully before emptying your purse. Do you want a dedicated smoker? IF yes then spending your shilling on an WSM will do you no harm at all.....but what do you have for the everyday grilling? Yes I love a 18 hour brisket but you have got to like an burger or an seared steak?

Thus unless you are already very well equipped, ooh matron titter ye not, then consider the Weber 57cm I have one and it is splendid, hold temps nice and have done good smoking and grilling on it, no I canot dash off an enormous brisket, and no it cant do 6 pork shoulders in an one -er but it is jolly good.

Search the interclacker and you will find an deal somewhere
cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

As Tiny says, consider what you really want properly before committing to your purchase. If you don't have a decent BBQ for normal grilling then a OneTouch or similar is a worthwhile investment as you can smoke on these, it's just a bit more work as has been mentioned. If you're after a dedicated smoker then the WSM's are the mainstream option but you might also consider a ProQ Frontier or its larger brother the Excel. Both are very good smokers and have features that the WSM is lacking. They're also about £100 cheaper.

If you're after anything Weber I'd recommend Riverside Garden Centre. I purchased a Weber MasterTouch from them recently and the service was excellent. Their website is http://www.riversidegardencentre.co.uk/bbq.

Thanks a million for your responses it has bought me back to reality... I need an all round grill/Smoker having thought about it.

EBay dont have many one touches and riverside garden centre seem to have good deals on so I think that's where my hard earned will go...

Cant wait to get cooking...

Cheers chaps... (ahem... And chapesses.. Just in case!)

I bought a 57cm one touch from wowbbq.co.uk at time of ordering they were the cheapest, it came with cover, charcoal dividers, untensil holder and pack of utensils, I chose this as I wanted to be able to use it as an all rounder.

I have the One Touch Premium and was sold on it for the ash collector below it, for me it was worth the extra.
I'm also considering adding to the empire by getting a Go Anywhere, just for holiday useage.
This BBQ lark is an expensive hobby :D

I have the MasterTouch and I opted for it because the grill system interested me. If you're not bothered about that, go with the OTP :)

At the risk of sounding like an miserable scrote....neither.

The premium has you paying extra for a tin and a thermometer which we all know we will never trust and will buy some kind of probe related bluetoothing ninja thermometer system.

The mastertouch invites you to pay still more for an complex grill system the point of which is far beyond me, if I am lo and slo I don't give a tinkers kidney about the grill, If I am damn hot I want cast iron all the way across.....

So personally would buy the one touch standard and spend the rest of the loot on goodies......or meat lovely meat......

Cheers
