Hi guys.

I have just signed up with bbbqs.com and wanted introduce myself.

I have been bbq'ing for a few years now but only using a gas bbq. (please don't judge me)

My issue is that i want to get more of an authentic bbq flavour without getting did of my current one, as i can't afford buying a more traditional model at present.

My question is;

Is there any way i can up grade my current bass bbq with stones or adding different woods ?

I love caribbean cooking, so most of the food i cook has a jerk feel to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you :D

Hi and Welcome

Had one of them when I lived in Spain, sorry but they are not very good and meant for hot n fast Grilling (steak, sausage n Burgers) not real BBQ. Might as well just use the cooker indoors for better results to be honest. You can get hold of top mounted smokers etc but its only for small amounts of fish etc. Tried them too just gimmicky. Lava rocks are never going to impart the true flavour of BBQ. I have tried them with a bag of JD oak chips and had a bad experience. You just got to bite the bullet remembering that true low and slow BBQ is over wood and coals. Even buying a cheapy BBQ and offsetting the coals is better,

Old chap,
We are a broad church and I have produced very credible lo and slo off of a gas grill. Trick is to offset, left hand burner on low with a tinfoil wrapped packet of wood chips atop it and your pork butt on the warming rack far right. Not competition I agree but very decent stuff I assure you, what do you have equipmentistically and wecan banter!Cheers Tiny
