Currently got a a 57cm Weber used for smoking and regular bbq. In the process of building a garden kitchen and going to add a 47cm Smokey Mountain and replace my kettle bbq with something else too though not sure what yet.

Wow you did well getting a response. I've not had one yet!

I'm from Cottingham, work in Beverley but recently moved to Leeds. We'll have to work out the best butcher in the east riding!

Fields of Anlaby probably the best butcher but way too expensive. I use the one on Newland Ave a fair bit, quite reasonably priced.

I'll have to check that one out.

Fields is in the q guild so they hike the prices up. They do good sausages and I occasionally get there hunters pies and huge vanilla slices but most of the rest is overrated and over priced. Theres a good butcher near driffield on Sunderlandwick estate just opposite the show ground. They use the cattle from the estate and slaughter them on the site so it's good local stuff. Someone recommended a butcher in Pocklington but I've yet to check it out.

Hi

Struggle for decent meat up here in the North East! Anyone have any decent suppliers??????? I know George Bowlams of Sedgefield has plentiful supply as you can see the beasts hanging in his chiller (stack em high sell them cheap) but a Brisket I got recently was terrible. I have 3 mates that are butchers but they all tend to do the Vac packed stuff cos customers want cheap n cheerful to match the supermarkets. only one of them cuts off the bone but has only very limited supply. Mind you tried some pork shoulder from Asda and Morrisons @ £2.95 a kilo and whilst it cooks well low n slow the cuts are crap as they hide a lot when stringing. That said even local butchers were buying bulk legs of English lamb from Asda at £3.95 a kilo and reselling so it just shows you. To be honest I lived in the US and Walmarts USDA select was better than some of our "better" meats

Yes the meat in Fields is ridiculously overpriced, a leg of lamb I usually pick up on offer in the supermarkets for less than a tenner goes for about £40 there. It's the place to be seen buying your meat though it seems. The sausage rolls are good though, just like Fletchers used to which isn't surprising considering it's the same baker according to the van driver. Those vanilla slices are massive, about the best value thing they do.

Unfortunately pretty much all the butchers I've visited in Hull buy their meat in vac packed. If you find any bbq worthy brisket in the area let me know, everywhere I've seen sells the rolled and trimmed stuff, it even comes vac packed in long lengths like that.

Never had a problem with pork shoulder in the supermarket, cooked right it's always done the job.

Hi
yep i agree supermarket pork cooks ok but there is a world of difference between the the blade end (butt) and the picnic. in the us they wont touch picnic but ours is all labled the same "shoulder" so you never know what your getting until the string comes off. just been caught out at makro with a big piece took the string off and it was boned out picnic ok but not the best. i like to know what im getting as picnic is for sausages i feel
