Hi all,

A mate of mine bought a 47cm WSM last week. He fired up that baby this weekend, there are some pics here:

http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/kk17 ... st%20fire/

It was a simple first cook, with two racks of spares, 1 comp style & 1 boiled (Foiled). and two chickens, as always the results were stunning. BBQ beans done on the platinum were up there with the best beans I have ever had.

Other info:

Weather - inclement with showers

Outside temp - 5 Deg C

Cooking temps - Between 235 and 265

Fuel - Restaurant Grade Lump

Restock Fuel - Marginal one hot chimney starter midway through

Restock Water - None

Wood - Hickory Chips

Beer - Stella Artois

Women - 3 Wives, marginal impact, small dent in Beer stocks from Sue (Shane's wife) but not beyond recovery.

Music - Eclectic, based on MTV, Hot chicks in some vids but no Kenny.

Title bestowed - Shane was allocated the title "Once a Year Griller" based on his poor performance over 2009, this was embroidered on the shirt we presented him.

Points to note as with my WSM the lid thermometer was at least 50 Deg below the actual reading (Based on the RediCheck ET73)

Very funny write up! i think the link is a bit messed up, working on a music catalogue for the BBQ spring, summer, autumn and winter that we will be told to expect this year.....................

I was really happy with the performance of the WSM which was far superior to my Pro Q Excel which i gave up on last year due to dire temp issues. The chickens were really moist and tasty but i was a little disappointed with the ribs. Guests said they were fine, but they just were not to my taste. I put that down to them being spares rather than baby backs which I prefer. I think overall a good first outing and not to long before I fire her up again and promote myself to "twice a year griller" !!!
