GMG Pellet Poopers

Noticed that GMG UK (aka American BBQ Company) now have stock of their pellet grills available.

Prices don't look too bad to me, but I was somewhat surprised to see that the UK/International version of the GMG controller measures temperature in Celsius rather than Fahrenheit. While I know that we otherwise use Celsius for everything, I've always worked in Fahrenheit for BBQ, simply because most of my reference books are American.

Am I alone in feeling this way? I've asked Nick if it is a switchable option, and he will get back to me.

It's moot for me at the moment, anyway, as I am still happy with my Traeger. But at some time, I was thinking of buying a new model and passing my existing one onto my brother, who was admiring it last time he visited. As things stand, I think I am better off continuing with the development of my own controller for the Traeger.

Ah, perhaps it's me then.

I do know that very early on, when I just had the Weber kettle, I had a Weber digital probe thermometer which was perfectly good, but I never liked using, simply because it was fixed in C. First thing I did with my thermapens was to flick the dip switch.

it's not just you Chris - I think you'll find most us on here work in Fahrenheit when it comes to BBQ, for the very same reason you do! :D

"C" for me too I am afraid. Always keep a conversion chart handy. All thermomoters set to "C" too. I still drink my beer in pints though :-)

Haven't heard from Nick regarding it being switchable. What he said earlier was that it was a trade-off between satisfying the existing people who *might* prefer F for the reasons I've given (although I see that is not universal), and broadening the appeal of such smokers to the general public, who may be put off by it not being in familiar C.

I have some sympathy for this argument, although I still don't know how well I would adapt.

When necessary one has to sometimes be ambidextrous. When it comes down to it both F and C are just numbers on a dial or gauge. Whichever your preference you just have to know what they mean…

seems very odd as they are all in F in the states must be a decision that GM made or a poor decision over here. Most advice for this style of cooking will be given in F just going by the forums and sites covering smoking.
