New build, horizontal drum

I started a new build today, discovered after a couple of events that the UDS just doesn't have enough room and is a bit of a pain to access the lower grill.

I decided to try a horizontal, reverse flow, offset drum smoker (try saying that after a few beers).

I'm going to do a write up again when I'm finished but so far I have cut the drum, burnt a pallet in it to try and remove the lining but I'll need to attack it with a grinder an flap disk, made a frame for the fire box an started the frame for the stand.

Here's how it looks at the moment:

I am guestimating it will have two cooking racks, the lower approx 500mm x 700mm and the upper 300 x 700mm but we'll see what it actually comes out at.

Will keep you posted, wish me luck :D

Hi Strechie, I take it that IS a top box on the moped and not a "Picnic Grill" ;)

Moped???? How very dare you sir, that's 1100cc of pure chubby b'stard warp speed moving equipment

Yep it's a top box, but I do like the idea of making a grill that would attach to the plate and using the panniers for clothes, but then it would have to be a toss up for the rear seat, does the missus get it or do I leave her at home and put the tent on the back seat?? Choices choices :)

Or promote good East/West relations and get one of those off road bikes with a sidecar, they have power to the back wheel and the sidecar, BBQ in some beautiful off road sites :D

I've got a Land Rover for that :)

Well last night kids we learnt that yer Uncle Dan is a bit crap at measuring...... cutting, planning, welding and probably a few other 'ings'.

He does however make up for this in sheer stubbornness, and guarantees with all his heart that he will have the best Picaso looking smoker in Wiltshire
