Cajun Microwave question

I was driving past a spot where fly tippers frequent and noticed a wooden unit that looks like a small pine box with the bottom removed (fallen out presumably). It is painted with gloss paint (pink) and covered in little stickers, so it's obviously from a little girl's bedroom!

It's perfect for a redneck oven / cajun microwave, but I'm wondering...do I need to fully remove all the paint from the outside? The inside is bare wood. I mean, ideally, I'd scrape it all off and repaint it in bbq black, but I don't care what colour it is and would rather just stick it in the ground if it's good to go as is.

What do y'all think? Pink and proud or will it cause smelly problems?

the outside shouldnt matter due to the lack of contact with the food. with an internal lining you should be fine.

Great stuff thanks Toby. I was mostly worrying about exterior smells, but I guess the first cook will burn any excess off. Saves me a lot of work and the neighbours get a pretty pink redneck oven to look at! Suppose I better remove all those plastic stickers though....

Exciting, think I will do Sunday dinner on it!

Hi Rob
Just make sure no painted surfaces are in contact with your charcoal tray and you should be alright.

Hi Rob

Are you foiling the insides or aluminium sheeting it??

Im halfway through my garden project and the wife will not let me buy the materials for a Cajun microwave just yet, if theres anymore pink boxes laying around I might grab me one of those.
Cant do my outdoor kitchen yet as we're saving up for the decking first, armoured electric cable is in and new fence is in so its just a case of saving enough for the decking frame and decking boards.

Good luck with the microwave, will you post some photos??

Hey slatts

Im going for tin foil. Plan is to barely spend a penny :) I'm lucky having a spare grill barbecue to donate the firebox. I will indeed post some pics!
