Minion vs snake with briquettes

Postby Scantily » 20 Apr 2014, 01:23

Hello chaps,

Many times I've read on here that minion isn't the best method when using heat beads due to the potential for an unsavoury flavour, and that fuse is recommended instead. What I'm confused about is that Americans by their thousands cook entirely with briquettes using the minion method, with bog standard kingsford blue bag or other standard briquettes being used most of the time. I'm presuming that heat beads are a fair bit higher quality than these American products, due to their price and reputation, in my mind I equate KBB and it's equivalents with your standard poor quality supermarket type briquettes, though please do correct me if I'm wrong

I've done a few minions with heat beads as well as one using the fuse method and I can't say I noticed any difference, apart from fuse being more annoying to layout, anyone else found the same?

Focus:
So my question is, why do people on here say that minion with briquettes is poor practice?

Thanks chaps.
