Hi all,

Which brand and type of coals do you recommend using in your smoker?

If you use lump then the consensus is to use Bookers' restaurant grade charcoal, if you prefer briquettes then look for Heat beads. Other brands are available but those are generally considered the best.

I really rate BigK lump, the ACH15 is great for low and slow, and the RCH12 is good for a grill session. I have just started using RCH15 and so far I'm really impressed with it. They are all available direct from their online shop, easier to get hold off if you don't have a Bookers card. When I used briquettes the BigK stuff wasn't bad either, also available year round online.

Do you all buy direct from the suppliers own website or are they other websites you recommend?

Do you know of any good deals going on at the moment?

Thanks, probably buy directly for Big K too. I've had a look online for other stockists that sell restaurant grade charcoal but I'm not finding many options.

Unfortunately, I don't have a bookers card so that is also a no go.

I use lumpwood from Booker in the BBQ for grilling and Bar-Be-Quick briquettes for the smoker

I just ordered a bag of ACH15 and RCH15. I've noticed some people like to mix their charcoal...is this recommended?

I don't really see any benefit in doing this.
