Could I use a food processor to cut up cooled pork/chicken?

Was originally thinking on purchasing one of those food slicing machines the deli counter in the supermarket has, but was wandering if I could save money buy using my food processor that makes coleslaw (got a slicer at the top instead of the bottom)...........has anyone tried it or can give advice? :)

Haven't tried it Vic, but my guess would be that it shreds the meat fibres making a mush or that the blade isn't keen enough and just hacks into the meat...again making a mush!

Maybe have a go with a smallish offcut and let us all know (I keep on at the Mrs about how we need to pony up for a meat slicer....)

I said something LIKE this! :roll: My meaning is that you should look for a Granton edged carver. I buy my knives at TK Maxx and rarely pay above £15 for anything however they don't last as long as the one pictured. Unfortunately you get what you pay for. If you want to buy Asda own brand go ahead! I use a meat slicer for catering to save time but i would always recommend that if you want to learn good cooking skills you buy good knives, keep them sharp, look after them well and practise your knife skills at every opportunity. PS Don't believe everything that Mike Mills or any other BBQ Champion[including myself :lol: ] tells you. They can be a right bunch of blaggarding b£star$s! :lol:

I'll tell you the truth from my point of view, No BS... :D

I use Global knives at home, these are quite expensive, my chef's knife was £180.

When I started BBQ, I bought some cheapo knives for doing BBQ as I din't want to take my globals to competitions. These knives lasted me a few weeks before i got thoroughly p155ed off with them. I ended up buying some Friedr Dick butchery knives. These are just poly handled jobs, not pretty and not too expensive, but they are stunning to use.

Henckels do a similar range, they're knives for pro's rather than being designed to look good in your kitchen. But they have been a fantastic investment, they make prep so much more pleasurable and allow me to work quickly without cutting myself. Much like my Globals do when I'm in the kitchen. The key thing is to keep them sharp.

I use a Dick serrated slicer for slicing brisket and cutting ribs. Never thought I'd like a serrated blade but my slicer is a beauty.

My best knife is an £18 Victorinox steak knife recommended by a Chef mate and bought from my butchers.

Tbh I know very little about knives with the exception that if you cut yourself the first time you use one it must be binned (I don't know why).

It's a good knife and similar in style to the Dicks
