I think people might have missed what i was asking. I've been looking around and see that people like Bob Gibson, Dr BBQ & Myron Mixon are all on here and was wondering if anyone else followed these people and had seen any tips that make following them worth while?

Tbh I have only recently started to use twitter but I will employ the same principles, I will follow the likes of Rod Gray, Caveman Cuisine, Texas BBQ Posse, KCBS etc. The guys that promote BBQ more than themselves. I did follow Ray Lampe and a couple of others on FB but it became more about their celebrity than Q, there are a few like that and the media lends itself well for that in the US that's ok.

I think in the UK we have to breed the cow before we milk it lol

Harry Soo has a good blog too, I'm not sure twitter is that valuable for good detailed info. I think in the US it would be good to findout who is where if you fancied visiting a contest. I can imagine that being really handy, or even when you're just visiting the states.

This is my opinion on Shigging and the term shigging.

Shigging only refers to competition BBQ;

shigging (shig-ging) , 1. v. to enter a persons BBQ site with intent of stealing BBQ secrets in an effort to improve one's own BBQ score. 2. v. to position one's self to view the contents of the inside of a fellow competitors BBQ pit when it is opened.
"Their BBQ team could write a book about shigging other teams recipes and techniques."

Let's not get into the culture of suggesting that this is a bad practice in the UK just yet. It can easily turn off potential newcomers to the competition scene.

Al, you are the first to be one to offer and give advice freely, would you not want people to ask your advice if they thought for a minute it would be tainted with the Shigging label.

We should avoid making that extension for help to be termed as Shigging. At least till we hit 50+ teams an event.

We learned a hell of a lot through so called Shigging in 09 at the Royal. Especially with presentation and terms like the money muscle. We didn't get that from twitter, facebook or blogs it came from a drunken conversation with our neighbour. We came back and immediately passed that around.

We had a Jack Daniels World Champion on our team and she had never heard of it. For the UK I think Shigging = Sharing, until we have county competitions and 4 a month from Mar through November I say Shig on and use what ever forums, social site or whatever to do it.

Personally I don't use Twitter. I'm friends on FB with BBQ people from the States, most of whom i've met while at the Royal. It's great to see how people are doing in comps and what they're up to just cooking in the back yard. Although a number are from the bible belt so I do see a few interesting "Jesus is Lord" type posts on my feed from time to time :lol:

There are a few I sometimes ask questions to, Jim and Ryan mainly but mostly I do my own R&D on my cooking :D

I have only just started using it, and to be honest still cant get my head around it, finding there isnt enough time in the day to manage 4 web sites, 5 facebook pages and now the twitter accounts all for the society, if there are some good UK based "twit's" that are worth following please let me know.
