Another one corrupted

Following on from my post in the topic about cold smoking, an update.

Chris__M wrote:Cheers, that's what I thought. The friend is one of the guys working on my garden, so I have just ordered a copy of Erlandson's "Home Smoking and Curing" as a little present for him. I'm also tempted to buy him a ProQ Cold Smoker, as he works with hard woods a lot (oak etc.) and would have no problem coming up with clean wood dust.

As it happens, my friend and his family came over on Sunday, and although he had seen the Traeger before, he hadn't seen it in action, or tasted the results. I put on some burgers on for the kids, but had also made some pulled pork and a lightly smoked silverside of beef. I needn't have worried about the burgers (although they were also enjoyed), but the pulled pork was the star of the show.

Both my pal and his wife are food enthusiasts already, making bread, cheese and other crafts, and were instant converts. To the point that his wife was looking through "Home Smoking and Curing" avidly, and reading out interesting bits, while my friend was already working out possible designs for a self build smoker, utilising either the filing cabinet or old non-working fridge sitting in his workshop.

What I hadn't told them was that I had already ordered a ProQ Cold Smoker for them. I'd been thinking of getting one for myself as well, so in the end, I ordered the complete kit (cardboard box jobbie) for me, and just the Cold Smoker unit for my pal. A copy of "Home Smoking and Curing" came with the kit, so I have added that to his pile, together with the selection of 5 one-smoke packets of dust that came with it, as I also ordered some dust in bulk.

This gives him a nice little start to it all, and after that he can make his own dust - in fact, he will probably keep me in dust too.

It all arrived today, and although I was planning to give it to him when all my work was finished, I gave in to temptation and gave it to him today - if only to stop them ordering the book themselves! Needless to say, he was chuffed, and it seems the old fridge is now going to become a cold smoker. More to the point, I now have some folk close to me suitably corrupted, to share my fun with.
