Proper job.

Postby Maximus616 » 01 Nov 2012, 21:15

Hi all, well here at last and glad to be so if you have`nt guessed I be from Cornwall,I am Cornish as is my wife and and two Daughters,I have been in the military since I was knee high to a cubscout having made my way through from 4 masted Sailing ship for three years,Royal Navy 14,and then RAF Regiment, well I felt like a change.Right up to the time that a large hill/mountain,decided to take a dump, and did so on me,I was buried up to my neck in a landslide with a heavy machine gun across my throat,I did`nt know this as I was out at the time, anyway that ended my career so I pass my time away as a Police Dog Trainer and have a new dog under my desk 7 week old German Shepherd.
I visited the States in the Navy and was out there for 18 months so BBQ became part of our social calender as we got invited to ones that were backyard to big interstate gigs and it was fantastic.I have always loved cooking and BBQ but have never done anything like I am now,I am getting the gear together to build a Hot Smoker BBQ,I have got a 102 litre Oil Drum cleaned and ready,Bill Anderson a Penfriend and Author of Competition BBQ Secrets has been giving me advice and my age I need it,in 9 days I hit the young age of 64,and am still a raving mad man, chucked my self out the back of a Hercules last year to raise funds for charity, god it was high up,even higher when we took off.I live in Cornwall in a village near a place called St Austell or as its known as St Awful by the locals,we are close to the sea and I love my Sea fishing, just taken up Coarse fishing again as a friend has a lake full of carp.Anyway I am going to build this BBQ so will be asking a load of questions to those who have gone before me on this quest so I hope |I don`t get chucked off for asking so many questions,if I do please forgive me as its like your first parachute jump, you want to know the facts before you jump out in case you need help on the way down.So there we are folks,I doubt if I will be competition BBQing but at least I won`t be turning and burning like some BBQ`s I have been to,nor as someone did when he could not get his BBQ to light he stuck a hose in the car tank and used a gallon of fuel to kick start the Barby, must say the food had a novel taste when it was served up,the person got a right talking to in hospital,he did`nt burn himself but put at least 15 people in A & E,burk used Diesel.
Well thats enough from me as I have got to start getting my question paper ready so see you on the Forum, Cheers All,May your Flames Never Dwindle and may your Ribs be ever Tender, ONEN HAG OL.(One and All).

Hi Max,(if I make so bold :D ) we like people to tell us a bit about themselves but if you want to keep yourself to yourself that's your perogative ;)
I haven't even thought of doing half of what you've acheived and been through
There are lots of self builders on here, so plenty of advice is readily available. The only daft question is the one you should have asked but didn't so don't worry on that count.

Welcome, and enjoy.

Welcome to the forum, been to St Austell before and I know what you mean , during my time their I enjoyed the smoke house in the harbour that sell great products, the brewery isn't bad either. But I remember Mevagissey the most, a little pretty fishing village.

Looking forward to reading your post.
