Mornin' all.

Postby L J » 05 Feb 2013, 09:15

Hi everyone.
I've just ordered a Proq excel and am getting ready to begin my journey into the smoking world.

Got my catering grade lumpwood from Makro (arrived next day....impressed), clay saucer yesterday from garden centre and will be having a good long chat with the butcher on Friday.

I've done so much reading my brain is fried!! Trying to read up as much as possible so I don't ask the same questions that have already been posted here before.

My initial aim at the moment is to be able to put on an american style BBQ in the 'summer'. By Christmas I want to be serving piggies in my own home cured/smoked bacony blankets and my own home smoked salmon.

Wish me luck!

Thanks for that.

I live in a village a few miles from Harwich in Essex. Our next door neighbours one side have an orchard so I should be fine for some apple wood. The other side have a wood burner and bring in wood by the truck load and he said just to ask and I can have some oak or whatever he's got at the time.

Just had an email saying it's out for delivery today. Going to be an expensive weekend I think! :D

Welcome aboard.
I used to stay in Dovercourt a lot. My parents (and most of my relations) had caravans there.

Moved to Dovercourt about 14 years ago, before coming out to the village. Originally I'm from Colchester. Beaches are nice, but not a lot to do for the teenagers!

Thanks. I'll make sure they are all ones I've seen listed here and I've got a list that came with the Proq. :)

Really looking forward to experimenting. Hopefully the wind will drop by the weekend! I need a smoking hut. :D

Don't be too fazed by the weather, I've smoked three times now, once in snow, once in rain, and once in quite strong winds. Thought it would play havoc with the setup but actually I found it to have little effect. Just try and find the most sheltered bit of your garden/house 8-)

And hey, if you can do it in this weather, a still summer's day will be a breeze (no pun intended)
