Wife concerned about my mental health!

Postby noxskuses » 11 Mar 2013, 14:13

Hi everyone,

Just bought myself a cheap offset smoker and made my first rack of smoked ribs on Saturday. Not perfect and lots to learn, but still tasted better than anything I've ever had before!

Trouble is all I can think about now is rub and sauce recipes, smoking techniques, cuts of meat, how to improve the smoker etc. etc. My wife thinks I've lost the plot, but I don't understand why everyone isn't thinking like me ;)

Is this normal?

Wait until you do an overnight smoke, when you can't sleep and have to keep looking out of the window at it (you know, just in case it's grown legs and ran away).

Thanks guys. I think. I can't help but feel I now need to get a bumper sticker saying 'You don't need to be mad to be a BBQ'er, but it helps!'

Funnily enough Nick, I've got an 'all-nighter' planned for this weekend :)

I told my wife about your comments and that it's perfectly normal to be this obsessive. She just smiled and mumbled something about 'nutjobs', but told me that as long as I put a plate of ribs, pulled pork, buffalo wings and slaw in front of her every weekend, she's happy to go along with it.

We've since made an agreement. I don't talk to her about the difference between Texan and South Carolina BBQ sauces, and she won't ask me to watch 'One born every minute'.

Sounds like a deal ;)
