Hey from Devon

Postby Paris Stamp » 14 Mar 2013, 21:22

Hey there, Im a keen cook, maker of my own bacon and owner of a cold smoker and sous vide machine I built myself. I live next to a butchers who are happy to entertain most of my weird requests.

One thing bugs me. Our American friends have due reverence for BBQ and smoking. Over nighter festivals and chilli cook offs in car parks the country over. Yet here, nothing. Maybe they are all going under my radar and i'm just not seeing it from here in deepest Devon. Anyone up for a Westcountry Chilli bakeoff or BBQ competition ?

There are a few West-Country lads n lasses here so doubtless they will be in touch. Sad to say it is a niche culture which is growing nicely :D

Hi Paris
I live over the border in Somerset and have been thinking for some time about holding a small cookup on my farm for members of the site, not a competition as such, just a friendly get together to smoke, grill and chill.
Cheers

Hey guys, thanks for your contributions. A big cook-up together sounds great. I did bump into the owner of the South Devon Chilli Farm at Exeter Food Festival last year. He was mighty keen on my suggestion to have a cook off, but it go no further. If anyones interested, we could maybe get a group togther.

I'm just converting a cold smoker into a hot smoker as we speak. Has anyone bought anything from 'The trustedinventor' on ebay ? He sells a lot of home made smoking gear and his hot smoker add on looks great.

Hi Paris and welcome.

Not a big fan of South Devon chilli farm, They import chilli's for their hot sauces :o which may come as a shock. But Dartmoor chilli farm great people as is Dorset.
