Hello from South Wales

Postby cannyfradock » 13 Apr 2013, 12:16

Hello all good folk of The British BBQ Society.

My name is Terry and live in Newport S.E.Wales. I have been a member since Jan 2010 and often visit this forum. I just noticed that I haven't yet posted anything on the Introductions page...whoops. ....hello from S.Wales.

I am always fascinated by the stuff you guys create with grills, BBQ's smokers etc. I have attended a few BBQ events and I'm always surprised how much patience and time it takes to produce the end result. They say "the proof is in the pudding" and I've never been disappointed with taste and tenderness of BBQ'd food.

I build Wood-fired ovens and also bake in them. Although they are not the same as grills, the two different fields of cooking often come together. (when I build a WFO I often build a BBQ station alongside).....I am always trying to gain a bit more knowledge in grilling and BBQ...ing and your forum has a wealth of info which I often tap into. As a novice BBQ'er I probably would take more out of this forum that I could ever put back in......maybe one day.

Keep up the good work guys...

Terry

Welcome to the forum Terry, we are all still learning! Is there any chance you could give us a bit of info on how to build a woodfired oven in that section of the forum, its something i definitely would like to have a go at doing.

Your oven in your picture looks fantastic. Something that I longed to have, maybe one day. Having you onboard is definitely a asset ;) .

...thanks for the kind comments.

Toby

I'd be more than happy to post a thread with the basic principles and stage guidelines accompanied with a few pics. The most popular Wood-fired ovens for a D.I.Yer are a brick built Pompeii or a simple Clay/Cob oven. I'll drop you a PM to see what you want.

Hi Gaz.....thanks for the warm welcome.

everything's fine (ish) with me. Yep....lots going on at the moment. No need to do anything with your oven...until YOU are ready to do so. We had such a bad summer last year followed by a severe winter that we are due some kind weather soon.

I should image that are many outdoor cooking enthusiasts who are just itching to get out their new grills, BBQ's, smokers or even WFO's for the first time. I'll be doing a special dance to the "fair weather" gods soon in the hope that we have a good run of decent weather so ALL outdoor cooking officianado's can get out there and "strut their fancy stuff"...oh yeah!!
