This maybe the end of my BBQ hobby, we will find out in the next 24 hours. I have, in an attempt to make a pro Q excel keep going in the frozen North West (will be soon), constructed a thermal insulation ambient temperature deflecting jacket/cabinet thingy. Made from 6mm external ply and pressure treated timber it resembles a tea chest on legs ! Fitting round and over the excel, but leaving the fire grate section open, the top is removable as is the front panel for easy access.
Aim, to insulate the excel due to it not liking cold weather. The jacket bolts together quite easily and will pack away in 5 flat panels, if disaster doesn't occur (disaster is a distinct possibility) in the disaster scenario packing away won't matter too much.
To trial the thing I have planned a 12 hour cook of a 3.5kg pork shoulder, clock alarm set for 0500, full load of heat beads, garden hose charged, mobile phone ready to dial a familiar number.
I have taken photos of this leap forward in gastronomic technology of the BBQ , and will attach them to the next post when I will report how successful the thingy was, or I could be in the Burns Unit (noooo thanks) !!!!
