I've had my Excel for around 2 years or so, the basket is well rusted even though the smoker gets covered when not in use. So much so I am seriously considering a new one for this year. I haven't checked it since before Christmas and will try scrubbing the rust off before deciding. :(

I haven't tried it so have no thoughts either way. But by the time I had bought the expanded metal sheeting and made a few mistakes I think it would be cheaper to replace the basket if necessary.
