Lava Rock or ceramic Briquettes

Was looking to dispose of my old gas BBQ as I'm getting a new one. The new one comes with lava rock but my old one had ceramic briquettes so my question is whats the difference and which is perceived to be the best?

On a more serious note supposedly lava imparts more labour and ceramic ones last longer and act as a better heat distributor. Personally I'd be looking for a grill with V bars or flavour bars if I was buying and expensive gas grill.
