Couldn't resist any longer - added a KJ junior to the classic ;-)

Nice, I'm a tiny bit jealous  Looking to get one myself, or the BGE Mini Max if it ever goes on sale, although I'm told it's close, just like the iPhone 6!!

What size is the Mini Max going to come in at? I decided the mini BGE was too small to be anything other than a steak searing machine - the Joe Junior is equivalent to the BGE Small size I think - it's big enough to get a decent side chicken or pork shoulder on, which means I can take it on holiday with us. Can't quite believe the price either when compared to the BGE Small. It comes with the heat deflector to cook indirect or pizza plus ash tool & grill gripper - all for £370 delivered from BBQ Land. Equivalent BGE works out at £590 without a stand.

It's the diameter of the small but the height of the mini, the perfect combination in my opinion. I do agree about pricing they are expensive compared to Kamado Joe stuff. The Mini-Max is supposed to be halfway between the mini and the small in price and will come with a carrying stand too, but we will see I guess, I doubt that it will come with heat deflector though, that doesn't seem to match BGE's selling model, that said however the XXL which has just been released is supposed to come with everything in one £4000 delivery!!

Have done a few cooks on this now:

baby backs (6 hours at 225F-ish)
a few steaks (600-800F sears)
a bone-in half-shoulder of pork for pulled pork (7 or 8 hours at between 300F and 350f)

Just as efficient & controllable as the big version - extremely impressed with it.

Was pushing the limit of height with the pork shoulder but it was a big joint.

Next test will be some small pizzas....

How portable is the Joe Junior? We've got a camper we like to get away in as often as possible - is it something that could easily be lifted in and out of the back?

Depends how strong you are! ;-) it's 30.8kgs - but the cart has handles each side, so with two of you it's very easy.

I'm thinking of getting a Joe Junior to go alongside the Classic...

I spent many hours trying to decide on classic vs big joe, and went for the classic in the end -- and have not regretted it. I think the big joe would have been too big to move around garden tbh, and you can get a classic and junior for same price of a big joe.

It must be great to be able to put a slow cook on classic and keep the mini up at higher temps for steaks etc. at least that's what I'm telling myself to justify the purchase! Not to mention the wife is now starting to take a shine to the classic. Perhaps she'd like a joe junior for Xmas?!
