New Thermometer

Postby CHokKA » 23 Mar 2015, 11:35

Hi all

I am after a new thermometer after my Maverick ET-732 stopped reading temperatures this weekend (the food probe reads "HHH" which basically means it is dead). This is now my second Maverick and to tell you the truth, I am really not that impressed at all. I liked the functionality of the 732, the fact that it was wireless and you could have the receiver in the house with the smoker in happily smoking away was awesome, so I'd ideally like the same functionality in another unit. What is a suitable replacement to the Maverick's? Or should I just suck it up and get myself a Maverick 733 even though I'm not sure I trust their equipment anymore?

Many thanks!

That doesn't always mean that they're dead, it can just be a bit of muck on the connector or it may need to be turned off and on again. Mine's displayed that a couple of times and it usually means the probe isn't connected fully. Can't offer any alternatives, unfortunately. I've owned an ET-732 for 2.5 years ish and I've only had to replace one probe because I yanked it out of the BBQ accidentally

Hey YetiDave

I should have mentioned that I took the probe out, tapped it a few times on the side of the Weber, and then put it back in again and it reads, but the reading is way out compared to my Thermapen. It was registering almost 100 degrees C higher.

Where did you get the probe from? I've seen that you can get hybrid probes that are rated for much higher temperatures, but I can't find any shops that sell these, only on eBay and I think it might be a bit of a risk as some have said that they haven't received what they were supposed to receive. I'd prefer to buy it from a proper seller if possible.

I got mine from Mac's BBQ. The probe wires for the replacements are much, much longer too :D

Those say they are, but they aren't according to the reviews on there. Alot are saying they're fake and don't work correctly with the Maverick's. Macs had them a while back but they don't seem to have them anymore :(
