Hello
Hope you're all well.
I am looking to make my own small bbq out of maybe a cast iron roasting tray and a wire mesh cake cooling rack.
Can anyone give me any preference on which type of roasting trays and wire mesh racks will work?
Ive seen jamie oliver use a cake cooling rack but will any old one do or can it not be coated?
Any help or links to items i could use would be great!
Thanks

What are you trying to do exactly? BBQs can be picked up for 10quid if small is ok.

Hi essexsmoker,
bbq'n fish etc maybe some ribs nothing massive.
Its really just about which grilling racks i can use? Will a cheap cake cooling rack do or does it have to be a specific material?
Cheers

Hi Max
Years ago I dug a 18inch square and deep hole in my garden put some charcoal in and stuck the chrome grate from the kitchen oven over the top "Viola" a BBQ. Another time I used a Wheel Barrow again oven rack over the top and a piece of roof tile to cover the tyre. In other words for hot grilling you can use absolutely anything so long as the receptacle for the charcoal can withstand the heat (you can even use a foil tray on bricks) plus a rack over the top works great just don't use anything that is galvanized! You will get the same results from a pot belly cast iron BBQ it looks nicer and isn't expensive.
