Southsea BBQ Venture

Postby TheMeatThief » 29 Mar 2015, 00:53

Good evening everyone and so far this is a great forum that I have found whist sitting at home waiting to put the clocks forward.. I live in Southsea, Portsmouth and this year I have decided to go with a long time ambition to start a catering company with my wife Natasha..

I am currently looking for supplier for brioche buns if anyone has any, I understand a contract bakery would be ideal but not found any at Bookers or Espanola.. Also can anyone recommend the best mince for burgers.

Looking forward to chatting on here.

Hello and welcome. For buns I would source out a local bakery, from memory there is an artisan baker on Elm Grove. For burgers you can do all sorts of wonderful mixes, chuck, sirloin and brisket is a favourite but the best approach is keep it simple and just ask for 80/20 at the butchers, don't go any leaner as you need the fat content for a juicy burger

Good luck! Let me know when you get set up, I have to come to portsmouth quite a bit as our UK R&D facility is there.

Hello old chap,
Fellow portsmuthian based in cosham. If you are looking for an meat supplier heartily recommend Sheperd family butchers in tregarron avenue Drayton. Good luck with the venture as we are very short of bbq locally

Hi there Jec. Thankyou for the advise I actually went to the Artisan Bakery on Albert Road a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday morning before starting some recipe action and was hostestly very disappointed that the only bread they sold was Sour Dough Bread, I went to inquire about wholesale baking and was wearing our Meat Thief uniform, although the sour dough bread that I purchased was delicious with Pate they did not sell any other style of breads.. My search continues, I shall head to Makro next week and maybe do a few call arounds to wholesalers.

Thanks for the info on the mince, I am currently buying small quantities from local butchers and doing small scale taste tests, Just got back from Akrams with a assortment of spices to play around with this week..

I shall let you know when everything is set up and notify you of an event we are doing.

Update for 2016, So since my post last year my wife and I have had a baby which meant that The Meat Thief catering business was put on hold, we now have an addition to the family and are starting up officially now. We have the Van and currently working on the rest of the bits and bobs that are needed.
