The shocking levels of customer service you get in the UK

Postby Zippy » 17 May 2011, 22:26

Was hoping it would be a while before I had to post my first moan/rant, but alas.

As some of you will already know, I recently ordered the big WSM. This was from Lords of Notting Hill, after they specifically told me the item was in stock and would be delivered in 3-5 working days. When I chased it up after 7 days, they told me that in fact it wasn't in stock and they had placed an order with the supplier in the US (Weber) for some more units.

"so how long do you estimate that will take?"
"They should be with us by late July"
"right, so when had you been intending to let me know that...?"
 FFS

So I cancelled that order and then ordered from garden4less.co.uk. It was £45 more expensive on their wesbite, but they agreed a price match to the price that Lords of Notting Hill were offering and def had one in stock, so I said fair play and ordered.... and was then charged the list price (ie £45 too much). Mumma mia.

Anyway, after being promised next day delivery this time, my WSM eventually arrived today (after 5 days!).... with a grate support missing. So I now have a 95% assembled WSM sitting on my patio completely redundant and unuseable. Can't wait to have yet another discussion with them tomorrow about how they're gonna sort that one out.

Gotta laugh I spose. Maybe I should give up at this point.

So has anyone had to order missing/replacement parts from Weber before? I might go straight to the UK office of Weber as it might just prove an easier solution at this point.

zippy, in one sense I feel relieved its not just me then :D .... I sometimes feel I am constantly being tested from up above.

I am reminded on a daily basis of the movie Falling Down...... and how close this country takes you to that limit !

Its very odd that your first supplier said they had placed the order with the states, this means they were not a official supplier in the UK. I recently ordered a WSM for someone on here and had a smimilar issue, ie stock was delayed coming in. One of the main issues, the WSM's are becoming more popular are Weber were not prepared for the increase in demand.

I got mine from dawsons department store. They beat the cheapest price I could find and delivered next day. No messing about with being over billed either. One of mine had an out of round base, I rang them and they apologised even though it wasn't their fault and got a replacement base out to me, it did take them 2 days to deliver that, for which I got another apology for the delay :D

They were very good in my experience

 I know what you mean. I often feel like my life is an episode of Grumpy Old Men, but the F around you get over what should be the simplest of things sometimes... call centres, admin errors, missed deliveries. Absolute nightmare. It doesn't help that we pursue a 'hobby' that is predominantly American and not big over here I spose.

They can try their best but they will not beat me. I WILL have delicious pulled pork inside me before the summer is out.

On the more positive side, I have to offer a massive biggup to Paul Goulden (here - http://bbqsmokingwood.co.uk/) who has been efficient and polite in my first dealings with him over the last week. He is obviously grateful of the business he gets from this site and gives a toss about his making sure his customers are happy. Top man, and thoroughly recommended.

I was actually pleasantly surprised to find out Weber have an official UK HQ where you can order spare/replacement parts etc from.

Duly noted for future reference. I had looked at bbqworld.co.uk but never ordered from there before.

Paul is a friend of mine and he's a diamond. If you ever get chance to visit his woods it's worth it. I did a BBQ for him at the woods the other week, it was a great day chilling out under the trees and scoffing down some pork and chicken
